“The crowd was awesome, the Annandale Hotel was packed front to back. I was loving every minute of it.” - Dave Gleeson

Mid 2011 saw Rick Brewster’s Angels fronted by Dave Gleeson of The Screaming Jets perform two mind-blowing sell out shows in Sydney and Adelaide. They showcased the band’s new single “Waiting For The Sun” as well as performing all the classics, leaving fans screaming for more and excited at the prospect of a new revitalized Angels.

Following that wave of enthusiasm, what had started out as a bit of fun between Gleeson and the Brewsters has created a new chapter for the Angels.

“The crowd was awesome, the Annandale Hotel was packed front to back. I was loving every minute of it.” – Dave Gleeson

“We had one rehearsal the day before and it felt like we’d been playing together for years. The audience was as pumped as we were and it just got better and better the more they gave it back to us. I just can’t wait to finish the EP and first album with this band and play more shows!” – Rick Brewster

With the single “Waiting For The Sun” having already been played nationally on Triple M, fans have had a taste of what to expect on the upcoming EP.

In August, ‘Politically Incorrect’ launched their comedy CD to media and the entertainment industry at their HQ’s in Crows Nest. The Angels closed the show with ‘Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again’, ‘We Gotta Get Out Of This Place’ and ‘Take A Long Line’. In a tough room the band blew the crowd away. Post show there were many comments on how amazing they sounded with Dave up front.

September will see the new look Angels head to Japan to play a benefit concert with Jimmy Barnes to help build a future for the locals whose lives were adversely impacted by the devastating earthquake and tsunami.

November/December 2011 will see The Angels embark on the “Waiting For The Sun” tour, which will be their first of many with Dave Gleeson up front. If the shows at The Annandale and Norwood were any indication, fans new and old are set for an Angels experience reminiscent of gigs in the early years at the Bondi Lifesaver in 1979.

“I thought it was quite interesting, it took you back to the grunt they had in the early 70’s and 80’s and seemed more focused.” Paul Christie – Party Boys

In launching the tour, The Angels have yet another surprise for their fans, releasing their first video since ‘Caught In The Night” in 1997. Stay tuned and watch out for the official “Waiting For The Sun” clip coming soon.

Tickets on sale Friday 12th August. Available online and at the venues.

“WE’RE BACK WITH A VENGEANCE!” – Rick Brewster

Post all the hype leading up to Dave Gleeson fronting Rick Brewster’s Angels, the time finally arrived for the two Oz-Rock juggernauts to share the stage. If packed houses at the Annandale and Norwood Hotels were any indication, this new outfit could be what carries The Angels’ to the next generation of fans.
With die-hard Angels fans frothing at the mouth in a mix of anticipation and curiosity as to what the Screaming Jets front-man would bring to the table, its was clear after only a few songs that they would not be disappointed. Gleeson’s powerhouse vocals and dynamic stage presence complimented the signature guitar sound that is unmistakably Brewster and The Angels adding a breath of fresh air into all the classics as well as the new songs from their upcoming EP.

“It is like they are reborn! Definitely a step up. All the harmonies were in tune and the band played really tight. Dave fit like a glove”. – Alan Lancaster, Status Quo

Fans were treated to yet another surprise with the normally ice-cold Rick Brewster, unable to hide his delight with fans at both shows swearing blind that they saw the lead guitar virtuoso let slip some extremely rare on-stage smiles.

When asked about the vibe and energy of the show, Rick Brewster said it was reminiscent of the early years at the “Bondi Lifesaver in 1979” and went on to assure fans that shows in all Australian major cities “will happen in the not too distant future” and that they “just want to knock off a bit more writing and recording along the way”.

Triple M Reviews: The Annandale Hotel | The Norwood Hotel

“We had one rehearsal the day before and it felt like we’d been playing together for years. The audience was as pumped as we were and it just got better and better the more they gave it back to us. I just can’t wait to finish the first album with this band and play more shows!” – Rick Brewster
“The crowd was awesome, the Annandale Hotel was packed front to back. I was loving every minute of it. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported the show, you rocked.” – Dave Gleeson

“Squeezed into the wall to wall crowd with everyone as we waited to witness Aussie rock history, the vibe was electric! Pounding out hit after hit, not one person wasn’t completely with the boys the whole way. Dave Gleeson’s energy was contagious, words cant describe how awesome Rick and John were, Chris & Nick were a powerhouse in the engine room – this was the best thing I’ve ever seen, ever. More!” - Julie Reynolds Ch44 & 5AA Adelaide

“Ive only just recovered, I lost my voice from singing to damn much. John Brewster running around like a 17 year old. Rick Brewster smiled more than once! Dave Gleeson .. Dave f****in’ Gleeson, how good is this guy !!!! He was sensational and made the tunes his own. The new ones were great. The world needs to see Gleeson and The Angels”. - Michael Pursche “Sitting in a bar in Adelaide” – Adelaide Rock Show

Stay tuned for more from Rick Brewster’s Angels www.rickbrewstersangels.com.au

Popular media tends to perpetuate a lot of myths related to the Aussie Bogan so we'd like to set the record straight with a few facts and myths of our own. Please feel free to comment and let us know what you think.

Bogan Facts

To be a Bogan is about identity, not behaviour.

Bogans do exist.

Bogans are everywhere: Usually inhabit the ‘Bogan Belt’ surrounding cities, suburbs, country towns….never beach front.

Bogans are not losers.

Bogans are not bludgers: Bogans work hard and most left school early, got a trade under their belt and have paid tax ever since (see fact #3)

Bogans don’t really care what society thinks of them.

Bogans like to have fun.

Bogans are direct: You always know where you stand with a Bogan.

Bogans are not slaves to fashion: Bogans do not pander to the likes of current trends, though there is a trend for the burnout crew getting their motors blown.

Bogans do not like authority: This is probably a mark of a true Aussie and stems from the convict days.

Bogan Clothing includes, but is not limited to…tight black jeans, mullet, goatie, long beard, flanno, black desert boots.

Bogans love Australia: proud to be an Aussie.

Bogans love V8s, Holden or Ford, sometimes Valiant.

Bogans love tattoos.

Bogans love motorsport.

Bogans love their music hard and loud: AC/DC, Rose Tattoo, Screaming Jets etc.

Bogans love a drink: Beer, Jack Daniels, Jim Beam…no poofter drinks.

Bogans are unsophisticated: Let’s keep it simple and forget the bullshit.

Bogans are tuff on land, but pretty useless down the beach.

Bogans don’t start fights: Though they always stand up for what they believe in.

Bogans are fiercely loyal: If they like something, they stick with it.

Bogans are generous: Most will donate to charities, help a stanger on the side of the road, or stick up for someone being harrassed….help a mate or a stranger.

‘Kath n Kim’ do not belong in the Bogan Basket: It’s a parody of consumer society, not Bogans.

Bogans are an unvocal majority.

Bogaphobic talk mirrors racist prejudice.

Bogans need to take ownership of the word ‘Bogan’, as did queers and nerds.

Bogans are here to stay: Get over it Bogaphobics, your days are numbered not ours.

Bogan Myths

Bogans are a convenient way for Bogaphobics
to uphold a false sense of being cultured.

Bogans are hard to define: There’s degrees of Bogan. The Bogaphobics throw around their opinions based on little or no knowledge, confusing the identity with white trash etc. Websites such as ‘Things Bogans Like‘ completely miss the mark.

Bogans are sexist: Bogans love chicks, Bogan chicks love Bogans.

Bogans are dumb, and small minded: how do you measure dumb ? Can you rebuild a motor and/or appreciate Angus and Malcom’s guitar sense.

Bogans are Yobbos: To be a Bogan is about identity, To be a Yobbo is about behavior, anyone can be a Yobbo (with enuff drinks in em)

Bogans are racist: They are very tolerant of anyone who gives them no grief or bullshit

Bogans cause trouble: The truth is, most Bogans get along much better with each other than other sub-cultures, they are thick skinned and laid back, good fun and good company. Bogans respect those who earn it or deserve it.

Bogans are untrustworthy: Their loyalty and sense of justice always ensures that a Bogan will be honest by default.

Bogans are out of touch: Bullshit, they know what’s real and what’s phoney, they can spot a bullshit artist a mile away. Passing fads don’t interest them, but they still remain aware of their surroundings.

Bogans are embarrassing to Australia: Are you kidding…EVERY one who calls themselves Australian has Bogan in their blood. True Bogans are the backbone of our identity. To snub Australia’s Bogan pedigree is to snub being an Aussie!
